Job Posting – Children’s Ministry Leader
September 28th, 2009Central Presbyterian Church, located in the heart of historic downtown Cambridge Ontario, is accepting applications for the position of Children’s Ministry Leader.
The Children’s Ministry Leader will be the key individual providing for the faith development of children from birth to grade 6, working in teamwork with the Minister. An added function of the job is to provide support to the families of these children.
Working closely with the minister, youth ministry leader, music director, and session, the Children’s Ministry Leader will ensure a cohesive approach to family programmes coordinated within the church. Program delivery will include interactions with: volunteer teachers, external resources/organizations and all members/adherents of Central Presbyterian Church.

Central Presbyterian Church – Children’s Ministry Leader Job Description (DRAFT)
It is the responsibility of the Children’s Ministry Leader:
Nurture:
- To cultivate Christian spiritual growth in the children of Central Presbyterian Church focusing on children aged 1year – Grade 6. And further to nurture the spiritual growth of the children in the Sunday School up to grade 8.
- To nurture a strong and active family oriented ministry including the parents as well as the children.
Integration:
- To integrate the spiritual work done with the children into a vibrant family ministry; reaching out to families within the faith community as well as those on the periphery.
- To build ongoing relationships with the families, integrating them into the life and work of the faith community of the church.
- To establish a line of communication with all the families of young children in the congregation through visits, mailings, phone calls etc.
Planning:
- To maintain, develop and where necessary modify programs for the children in the Children’s Ministry and the Sunday School to meet the mission and objectives of the ministry and congregation. This must be done in consultation with the Christian Education Committee.
Coordination and Implementation:
- To coordinate and implement plans, programs and special events (weekly, monthly and annually) for the children in the Children’s ministry programs as well as the Sunday School.
- To support the Youth Ministry for the purpose of facilitating the transition to the Junior Youth program.
- To liaise with the individuals who coordinate the nursery schedule.
- To act as a liaison to parents and families keeping them informed of what is happening in the Children’s Ministry and Sunday School and to make them aware of any concerns or needs concerning individual children.
- To act as a liaison between the Sunday School teachers and the parents whenever the need arrives.
- To work closely with the Ministry team (Minister, Youth Ministry Leader and Music Director) in all aspects of the life and growth of the church and the ministry.
- To create a safe and welcoming environment for all children and families through proper supervision and discipline.
Teaching and Training:
- To initiate and facilitate opportunities for leadership training and development.
- To provide for and encourage the reformed spiritual development of the children through approved approaches and resources.
- To recruit and train leaders (volunteers) to assist in programs as well as Sunday School teachers for the various grades.
- To liaise with other Presbyterian churches in certain programs like VBS.
Outreach:
- To recognize and address needs outside the church community as approved by the Session.
- To continue, develop or revise programs to welcome families and children outside the church community to become a part of the ministry and the church.
Reporting and Accountability:
- To attend weekly Ministry team meetings with the minister, Youth Ministry leader and the Music Director.
- To submit a written report monthly to the Christian Education Committee.
- To meet with the Christian Education Committee on the scheduled date every month.
- To provide regular written communication with the congregation through the bulletin, flyers, bulletin boards and the website.
- To prepare an annual report for the annual congregational meeting.
- To meet with the Personnel Committee as scheduled during the year.
- To participate (be visible) in the life and the work of the congregation.
Administration:
- To prepare an annual budget for the Children’s Ministry as well as the Sunday School within the overall budget framework and constraints.
- To update and maintain the current information for all the children and their families.
- To follow the policies of the Leading with Care document of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
- To coordinate the advertising of all children’s and Sunday School events.
